While the Crest lost many high-profile motels during the 'condo boom' of the early 2000s, several others disappeared very quietly and with little fanfare. The diminutive Avanti, unfortunately, was one of the latter.
The Avanti was nestled in the middle of the E. 400 block of Lavender Rd. in the northern area of the Crest. It rested up against the back end of the Carousel Motel's northern wing (to the east) and faced the back end of the Markay Motel/Island Time Motel (to the west). The Ebb Tide Motel was also right across the parking lot to the southwest, while the Aztec Motel and American Safari Motel stood across Lavender to the immediate north and northeast, respectively.
- The Avanti was originally known as the Vogue Motel.
- Avanti is an Italian word for 'advance' or 'forward.'
- The motel was most likely named after the Studebaker Avanti, a sports coupe originally built by the Studebaker Corporation of South Bend, Indiana between June of 1962 and December of 1963. Designed by a team of stylists employed by industrial designer Raymond Loewy, the Avanti featured a radical design. Dimensionally, the car's size was very close to that of the Ford Mustang.
- Other motels named after cars in the Wildwoods include the Packard Motel in North Wildwood, the Skylark Motel in Wildwood proper and the Bel Air Motel in the Crest, among many others.
The Avanti was located in the Crest's Historical Motel District.
